Low cost set-top box for IPTV also decodes Free-to-Air digital terrestrial TV

IPTV set-top box (STB) vendor Amino Communications has expanded its low cost STB range with a new device that incorporates a DVB-T tuner. This enables the STB to support Free-to-Air (FTA) digital terrestrial television as well as the interactive on-line audio, video and data services and Internet access afforded by IPTV. This makes the AmiNET213 a superior digital entertainment offering suitable for the home and the hospitality sector, for example in hotels where an RF cable infrastructure may already exist.

Like the other set-top boxes in the series, the AmiNET213 is designed for multimedia content distribution in networked environments. However, in this device the Ethernet connection can be used for interactive services while broadcast TV channels can be received through the RF cable input. The AmiNET213 implements Linux as the operating system of choice and the software in the device can be updated securely over the network by the service provider. The unit is available as a licensed design or volume product, and can be customised to meet the specific needs of customers using Amino’s JMACX Application Program Interface (API) to design the screens. These are supported by the embedded HTML4 browser and used by the viewer to control the STB.

A model specifically designed for the hospitality sector, featuring a more secure casing, is also available.

Amino is an electronic systems designer specialising in products for multimedia distribution such as on-line digital video and audio, as well as data reception. Its range of small, low cost, high functionality set-top boxes and gateway products are available as manufactured units or as licensable designs for hotels and hospitality markets, healthcare, retail and education, as well as networked and broadcast markets. The company offers a shared risk and reward approach that enables the rapid implementation of cost-effective services.
