Amino upgrades its ultra-small IPTV set-top box for the US and Asia

Set-top box (STB) vendor Amino has upgraded its popular ultra-small AmiNET100 STB to add extra connectivity whilst retaining its elegant small form factor. The AmiNET110 offers additional features, such as a RF modulator output, RGB and S-Video output, S/P-DIF digital audio output, and USB interface. These features provide additional flexibility that enable broadcasters to deploy IPTV and video on-demand services in different geographical markets.

The AmiNET110 offers significant cost benefits for online service providers and telecoms companies as it enables a reduction in the capex requirements of network installations. The upgraded connectivity features are additional to the Ethernet input and flexible audio/video output of the original AmiNET100. These enable the STB to deliver sophisticated interactive digital TV including multicast and video on-demand, as well as Internet access. The USB interface can for example provide support for functionality such as games controllers.

The device offers various memory options, including additional NAND Flash memory that enables it to boot its environment from internal resources, although to minimise cost it can also boot over the network. Its HTML 4 compliant embedded browser and JMACX HTML and JavaScript extensions provide a customisable primary user interface. This enables the STB to control a sophisticated video on-demand and IP multicast system, with full 'trick-play' functionality and picture-in-graphics. The device has low power consumption and implements Linux as the operating system of choice.
