Slovenia's leading ISP selects Amino STBs for new Internet TV service

Roll out of 100 TV channel service plus Internet access

Cambridge UK, 22 March 2004: Amino has been selected to supply its AmiNET103 set-top boxes (STB) to Slovenia's leading ISP, SiOL, for its new Internet TV (IPTV) service. SiOL has over 40,000 ADSL subscribers in Slovenia and the new service will give them access to over 100 TV channels as well as Internet access via the existing telephone network. Other services, such as Video on Demand will be offered in the future. The value of the contract is undisclosed.

The low-cost AmiNET103 is the industry's smallest STB measuring only 75mm x 75mm x 9mm and incorporating an RJ45 Ethernet socket for its input from the subscriber's ADSL modem. It plugs into the TV set via stereo audio and composite video connectors. An IR remote control and on-screen menus give the user access to SiOL’s extensive offering of 100 SAT TV channels as well as web browsing and email via a web browser interface.

Matevz Turk, SiOL's Acting Director, commented. "We looked at a number of STBs suitable for our new IPTV service, and the AmiNET103 was the clear winner. It scored very highly in terms of price, ultra small size and its advanced embedded browser which we can customise to meet the needs of different subscriber groups".

Internet Protocol-based TV is developing rapidly as it enables TV channels as well as video-on-demand (VoD) and interactive services to be delivered over broadband telephone networks. Subscribers can watch digital-quality TV programmes and have access to a wider selection of movies than presently available, while benefiting from full interactivity.

The AmiNET103 offers significant cost benefits for online service providers and telecoms companies as it enables a reduction in the capital expenditure requirements of network installations. More information on the product can be found at https://www.aminocom.com/products/aminet103.html

Bob Giddy, CEO of Amino, commented, "We are delighted by our first major eastern European contract. It demonstrates that Internet TV is not only taking off rapidly in the USA and Far East, but also closer to home."
