ICTV, Amino Communications to Partner Next-Generation Interactive Television

LOS GATOS, CA and CAMBRIDGE, UK (November 17, 2004): ICTV™, creator of HeadendWare®, the broadband industry's most powerful platform for the delivery and distribution of compelling interactive content, and Amino Communications today announced an agreement to partner on next-generation television services via Amino's ultra-low cost, high functionality set top boxes.

The agreement enables network providers to utilize the centralized HeadendWare platform to further extend the capability of Amino's AmiNET series IPTV set-top boxes. The partnership enables network operators to deliver such advanced interactive services as branded games, children's programming, local news, sports and weather and transactional opportunities. In conjunction with Myrio's IP Video Platform, Amino and ICTV will be able to provide seamless navigational experiences between in-box and centralized interactive applications.

The two companies will demonstrate the integrated solution on Myrio's IP Video Platform at the TelcoTV Conference & Expo Nov. 17-18 in Orlando, FL.

ICTV's HeadendWare platform uses centralized processing power to deliver cost-effective, real-time interactive services -- including high-quality audio and full-motion video -- to a variety of set-tops. HeadendWare enables applications developed with standard PC, Web and Java tools and supports the latest versions of HTML, JavaScript, Java, Windows Media Player, Flash, RealPlayer and QuickTime. Because application size and complexity are not constrained by the characteristics of the set-top or carousel capacity, HeadendWare allows content providers to deliver rich, compelling next generation television services quickly and easily with minimal repurposing costs.

“HeadendWare's use of centralized processing power has made it the ideal choice for the delivery of high-quality interactive services to wide range of set-tops,” said Jonathan Symonds, vice president of marketing and business development at ICTV. “Our work with the AmiNET family of boxes is a superb example of ‘good things coming in small packages.' While the box deployed is the industry's smallest, we are able to extend its capabilities to deliver unparalleled two-way interactivity.”

“With the increased competition in the telecommunications sector, network providers are seeking to distinguish themselves by delivering advanced broadband services,” said Bob Giddy, CEO of Amino. “The ability to work with ICTV and our existing partner, Myrio, to expand the capabilities of our set-top boxes will enable our customers to provide the depth and quality of content needed for them to be successful in the digital video business.”
