Amino Takes to the Skies with In-Flight Entertainment System

Lumexis licenses Amino's AmiNET130M to provide airlines with 100% digital High Definition (HD) channels and advanced services

Cambridge, UK and Anaheim, CA - November 11, 2008: Amino Communications, the world leading IPTV platform supplier, today announced that Lumexis Corporation, the provider of the Fiber To The Screen™ (FTTS™) airline entertainment system, has licensed Amino's AmiNET130M technology to deliver 100% digital HD IPTV to airline passengers. Lumexis will use Amino's hardware and software technology for its customer, a top global airline, to replace current entertainment systems.

"We wanted to offer airline customers a light-weight, cutting edge alternative to currently available in-flight entertainment systems," said Rich Salter, CTO for Lumexis. "The AmiNET130M technology enables a breadth of functionalities and high-quality HD performance that made it the obvious choice. In addition, Amino's established reputation and industry expertise provides us with peace of mind as we move forward with this groundbreaking new offering."

The hardware and software technology is used in the AmiNET130M, which is the industry's smallest all digital, HD H.264 Set-Top Box (STB). The technology offers customers the ability to deliver end-to-end digital HD TV, video-on-demand (VOD) and many other services. Connected to one single, standard server on each plane, the AmiNET130M technology will provide airlines with additional opportunities to maximize revenue through new services including VOD online shopping, gaming, and on-demand food and beverage orders. Lumexis' FTTS™ system is a complete fiber optic system that runs HD capable fiber to every display in the airplane cabin, and eliminates the need for individual seat boxes or zone boxes. As a result, the FTTS™ system weighs 50% less than traditional in-flight entertainment systems. It's also comprised of an open, plug and play architecture, offering airlines the ability to add additional entertainment features and services to fit their future business needs. "Lumexis has created a unique system that will completely alter the way airlines offer in-flight services to passengers," said Roy Kirsopp, VP and General Manager of Amino. "We're thrilled to provide the IPTV centerpiece for an entertainment system that will not only create a new business model for airlines to generate additional revenue, but offer increased flexibility and more choices for travelers all over the world."
